Was known as Burma until 1989. The country's name was officialy changed by the military government that took over in 1988. Its music is melodious, generally without harmony and usually 4/4 in time

Sidaw

Can be called sidawgyi is the outdoor musical ensemble.
It is an ensemble in royal courts used to mark important ceremonial functions like the royal ploughing ceremony.

Hnegyi (hne)

Is a large double reed pipe.
It's body is made of wood, with a conical bore with seven finger holes at the front, set in a straight line with a bell hung on top.
It has a flaring metal bell and has a loud tone.

Si

Is a bell.

Wa

Is a clapper.
Is usually played during festivals and royal ceremonies

Gandama

Is a double-headed drum.

Saung

Is an indoor form composed of a female singer accompanied by a traditional ensemble called saung gauk.
Is an arched harp used in traditional Burmese music.
Is regarded as a national musical instrument of Burma

Patala

Is a large wooden xylophone which we find under a slightly different appearance and different names.

Ranaad

Name of Patala in Thailand.

Roneat

Name of Patala in Cambodia.

Mi Gyaung

Is a crocodile-shaped fretted, plucked zither with three strings that is used as a traditional music in Burma.

Palwei

Is a wind instrument which consist of a hollow tube played by blowing through a hole at one end.

Tayaw

Is a bowed string instrument similar to the western violin but the sound box is shaped like a loudspeaker made with iron and brass
